Shopping....

is hard work for a hard-working girl, just trying to make her way in America. I'm just a rocker girl at heart, trying on endless pairs of shoes with her girlfriends. When you have 4 best friends who all like to chatter, it can be hard to have your voice heard--especially when you're more concerned about how your feet look underneath the thin black straps of the most beautiful and most uncomfortable shoes. My voice WILL be heard. As a young, minimum wage earning single mother, there is rarely time to take a stand! Check back soon for a glimpse into my life...and for you pet lovers out there, you can bring your dog!

You sound like an amazingly strong and courageous woman. Keep burning the sage.

Rock on, Pip! We American Women need Strong Women like you to challenge those who claim to be "compassionate,' but have no clue what that truly means. Stomp on those hypocrites with those uncomfortable yet stylish shoes of yours! Stay strong, girl:)

Shopping for peace would be good too, if only we could buy a better future for our children...

i don't know about this tori : (
i miss pele and elixirs... sigh.

please don't let us down.

i met you once and asked nothing of you, i gave you a print that represented what he did to me, and how i begged for forgiveness from some unknown god/goddess.

i miss the tori who helped me up when i thought my life was over... i don't want to go shopping with you. i want to hear harpsichords and break into churches at night and sing about the boy who took everything from us. what happened to that tori? why have you become a consumer? please don't turn into everyone else, tori.......please..... :'(

Hi Pip!
I like the name of your blog. I feel like I've been trying to survive America my whole life. It's especially hard when you're a guy who loves guys...i mean, i can't even legally get married! Whats up with that? anyway, even though I live in San Francisco, it's getting harder and harder every day to compete w/ the elite...i don't really want to...i always say, love is all i need.

anyway, being a minimum wage earner myself, you'd think a college degree would have got me into a better job...(graduated in January), but I'm still looking. I found a lot of jobs I like but they keep telling me that i don't "fit". Well, when I'm down, I like to shop like you and make my own music...that is if I'm not listening to Tori Amos! She always cheers me up when I'm feeling blue. It would be a lot harder to survive America without her. I guess I'm lucky that she keeps making great music. Ok, time for yoga, have a great day!!

This is so gimmicky it reeks. Sonia, I'm with you. There are other flame haired goddesses out there with the same passion you seek. Don't give up the search.

Whatever happened to it being all about the music Tori? And jumping off "musical cliffs" with each album? A solid album that stood on its own credentials without all the schmaltzy and gimmicy campaigns and "concepts" would've been a welcome relief...
Good luck with the "new" record although it feels we've been here before...

Anonymous said...

:( the tori we fell in love with is never coming back, is she?

Anonymous said...

aiaiai ... selfish people wanting their fill, wanting to consume/buy the same image they fell in "love" with again and again ... when you love people, you let them try out new things, no ... not make them perform the same old trick like the tired circus dog, no ... why not let the artists do some exploring too if they want to? ... if you don't like what they do, other people don't need to know, nor care.

I am curious to see what story "pip" is going to tell. It is certainly engaging

Tori, you're amazing...I cannot wait to hear the new album.

Hey Pip,

As soon as I heard you're going on tour with some of your friends on tour, I knew I just had to look you up.

"Surviving America" is apt as a Canadian, I've been surviving your country and its effect on us for years, on our economy, on our politics, etc. As one late Prime Minister here stated, Canada and the US, the relationship is much like an elephant and a mouse. Canada just tries its best to not get stepped on by the elephant. LOL

But we gotta sometime, girl, talk about the "boys" we love. The last American boy I kissed when I was a teenager two decades ago tasted of ketchup but the one I adore now wants to prove that not all American boys' kisses taste that way. If I do take him up on his offer, will his taste like ice cream or like blood?

this is really a pretty lame idea. so uninspired.

i like your statement about thin skin under shoe straps. this voice of yours is most likely my favorite.

hey sonia,

tori's always been a consumer. we all are. but now she's not in that place, and she's inviting you to come out of the dark and dance in the light with her. she's walked through the darkness and now she's celebrating. Can you draw on the strength her newer girls have? can't you see the power pip and the others are walking with, they want you to walk with that power too. Stand tall. You can go to pele's girls when you need to, but maybe you should trust tori. She has bigger battles to fight, and you can fight yours too. T would want that for you. She doesn't want you to live in the dark forever. Tori can't forever stay in places you need her too, but her music is always there and so is she. I used to live in the dark, but the other side isn't so bad either.

I'm *so* looking forward to getting to know Pip and the gals.

And I think I love Tori so much not just because I grew up with her, but *she* grew up with me. She'd be a pretty lame person if she were still wailing about trauma that happened to her decades ago, wouldn't she? Would we still love her so damn much if she weren't strong enough to grow past the pain and into joy and laughter and yes, even shopping?

The whole point of Pele is that she burns away the pain and filth and leaves something pure and beautiful behind.

Let's hear it for growth and beauty.
